The residential services division of PG&E, a
west coast utility company, wanted to build goodwill
within the community while teaching children about
the need for energy conservation. The plan was in
line with the utility's public relations approach to
children, since the company sponsors a number of
programs to create awareness about recycling, the
dangers of drugs, etc. To educate children about
energy conservation, PG&E used four designs of
Charlie Sticker Sheets, by Gill-line (asi 56950),
which featured a variety of animal illustrations.
The advertising label on the front included the
utility's logo and the copy, "Conserving
Tomorrow's Energy Begins Today." The company
also utilized the backing sheet by printing eight
"Energy Saving Tips for Kids!" The
stickers were distributed primarily at a PG&E
booth at the state fair. They also were handed out
at other public events involving children, as well
as at special PG&E School Days. Upon
distribution, a specific request was made,
particularly to adults who took the sticker sheets,
to read the information on the back. The company
received many positive comments from both parents
and children. PG&E was confident that the
stickers achieved their objective of educating
children on an important topic. |
