regional association used the theme,
"Snafu" - Situation Normal, All Fouled Up
- for its sixth tabletop show, and carried the theme
out graphically, in special games, at mealtime and
on a variety of specialties. Pre-show mailers in hot
pink featured misplaced copy blocks and handwritten
proofing marks. After dinner games based on
"snafus" included "Camera Ready?
Sure," "The Bad Mix Up" and
"Just What Do You Mean?" And the
specialties bore the logo which featured a reversed
date. The hotel even got in the spirit by surprising
luncheon guests with a so called double-booking
"snafu" and sending them to a littered
room with chairs stacked on tables. Direct mail,
telemarketing and publicity were also used in
advance promotion. Registrants came from Oklahoma
and Louisiana to attend the show, and luncheon
attendance exceeded pre-paid reservations by 31%. |
