Each quarter, a large-circulation trade magazine
about camping equipment sent its advertisers and
potentials a small gift to remind them to consider
the magazine. Since many of those in the target
audience were personally, as well as professionally,
interested in camping, the magazine sent a gift that
campers would appreciate. Since campers are always
in need of matches, each advertiser received a
calendar-imprinted matchbox. The box contained 140
wood matches, suitable for lighting a campfire,
fireplace, candle, outdoor grill or even a cigar or
pipe. The calendar was large enough to highlight
advertising closing dates so the magazine could
reinforce its sales message. An accompanying safe
mailing carton facilitated the use of direct mail
delivery. |
