| The
objective was to introduce a new pediatric intensive
care unit and to alleviate typical fears of children
to hospitals by projecting a fun and loving image. A
kangaroo caricature, "Katy-Roo R.N." which
children could relate to in a positive manner, was
created for a promotion that featured a costumed
nurse with two baby kangaroos in her pouch.
"Katy-Roo" debuted at a Maternity Fair
attended by mothers and children and appeared at an
open house for the new pediatric department and at
community events. "I love Katy-Roo" note
pads, clip-on pens, jumbo pencils, stickers,
buttons, balloons, night lights and postcards were
distributed by "candy stripers" to young
patients and visitors. "Katy-Roo" watches
were given as special gifts at Christmas to children
in the intensive care unit. "Katy-Roo,
R.N." was said to have been a well recognized
symbol of kindness directly associated with the
hospital. |
